WARNING: Before jumping into the different strategies to promote your blog posts and increase your blog traffic it’s CRITICAL that you read this entire introduction first!
I recently did a small survey with my audience and customers about their content marketing strategy. I was very happy to see that nearly 80% of my audience are actually creating their own content at least several times per month!!
If you’ve been listening to any of my incredible podcast interviews with our Top OnlinePlaymakers and Rising Stars you will know that the majority of our top marketers say that their biggest breakthroughs happened when they started creating their own content!
But of course, creating the content is only the first step.
When I asked what is the biggest challenge you have regarding content marketing the overwhelming majority of you said you needed help with how to promote your blog posts; getting more people to view your content and actually having that content help you get more traffic, leads and sales for your online business.
So I went to work and compiled this Ultimate Blog Post Promotion Guide –
How to Promote Your Blog Posts to Increase Blog Traffic, Generate Leads and Grow Your Online Business
I also recommend you DOWNLOAD my Content Marketing Promo Guide complete with a Content Marketing Planner Spreadsheet, Content Ideas Cheat Sheet and a Content Promotion Checklist to help you really maximize the effectiveness of your content marketing strategy and get more traffic to your blog!
WARNING: Don’t Try ALL of This at Home!!
I definitely want you to read through this entire guide and discover all of the options and opportunities you have to promote your blogs posts, grow your audience, increase blog traffic and generate more leads.
BUT… don’t try to tackle ALL of these strategies and tactics yourself!
If you have attended or studied any of my training you will know that I talk A LOT about simplification and focus.
I recommend: You choose the strategies and tactics that you can implement consistently with every piece of content you create instead of trying to do too many and not being able to execute.
I also strongly recommend you outsource as many of these tasks as you can as soon as you can so you can stay focused on more important activities in your business such as creating more content and actually selling your products and services.
To help you stay on track DOWNLOAD my Content Marketing Promo Guide complete with a Content Planning Spreadsheet, Content Ideas Cheat Sheet and Content Promotion Checklist.

#1: Your Content Must Be Outstanding!
Let me be blunt.
There is NO magic bullet to increase traffic to your blog, website or content. There is no software, strategy or gimmick that will solve all your blog post promotion challenges.
The success of your content marketing strategy depends primarily on the quality and relevance of your content multiplied by the consistency and delivery of that content to your market over a long period of time.
Simply put: Create incredible, valuable, share worthy content that your market wants and needs. Deliver and distribute that content on a consistent basis over a long period of time.
Make your content share worthy!
Content marketing is not a quick fix strategy. But it’s also not an optional strategy.
The blog post promotion strategies I share in this guide will help you increase blog traffic, get more leads and more sales, BUT… only if you are providing valuable and engaging content to your audience on a regular and consistent basis.
#2: Know Your Audience and What They Want & Need
One of the key fundamental marketing principles that determine how successful any marketing campaign will be is to ensure that you have the “Right Message to Right Market”.
You must be clear on who your target market is.
You must understand your target market, who they are, what their problems & challenges are and what they want & need right now.
If you give your audience exactly what they are looking for they will love your content and they will share it.
If you provide real value to your audience, solve a pressing problem, or connect deeply with their desires or worldview they will love your content and they will share it.
Take the time to really think about what your audience truly needs right now.
Or better yet ask them.
Post a question to your audience. Post it on social media or send an email. Create a survey. Like the one I did about content marketing that inspired this post.
If you don’t have an audience of your own simply do the research. Look in relevant groups, communities and forums. Ask around.
Ask yourself how can I best serve my audience right now? What pressing problem, challenge or obstacle can I help them with?
Then create your content around that.
#3: Create Your Pillar Posts
There are some internet marketing “experts” that will try to convince you that all you need to do is create lots of content.
If you are like the majority of content marketers and bloggers, writing 500 word blog posts daily (or weekly) that aren’t being read by anyone then I’m sorry to break the bad news but you are wasting your time.
The experts will tell you to “blog every day!”
As if somehow the sheer quantity of all the content you create will somehow magically attract people to see it.
I’m sorry, but even if you create a blog post every day for 2 years you will only have 730 blog posts.
There are over 3 MILLION blog posts published every single day! (source: http://www.worldometers.info/blogs/)
The chart below shows the number of blog posts published per day on just WordPress.com alone.
If we add video, there’s over 300 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every single minute! (source: http://expandedramblings.com/index.php/youtube-statistics/)
Clearly you will NEVER win the game on quantity alone.
It should be crystal clear then, that your only play is to focus on quality.
This is why the first task I give all of my marketing students and clients is to start their blog by creating 3-5 pieces of their best content.
We call this Pillar or Evergreen content.
These 3-5 posts should be the best of what you have to offer.
Your Pillar Posts are what you want to be known for.
They should clearly communicate and reinforce your branding and positioning in the marketplace.
They should be strategically written to address the 3-5 most pressing, most important topics, issues or challenges your target audience wants to know about.
You will constantly link back to and refer to these posts.
You will continue to update them with new information and continue to promote them over time. Hence the name Evergreen Content.
- If you haven’t created your 3-5 pieces of Pillar or Evergreen content yet, stop everything you are doing and do it NOW!
- Download theDOWNLOAD my Content Marketing Promo Guide and use the Content Planner Spreadsheet & the Content Ideas Cheat Sheet to help you come up with high quality valuable content for your target market.
#4: Promote Your Blog Posts to Your Email List
Still there are some marketers who neglect this.
This is always my first promotional step when I publish a new piece of content, whether it’s a blog post, a YouTube video or even a Facebook live broadcast.
If you have something valuable to share, let your email subscribers know about it!
Your email subscribers are you’re best and most engaged audience (if you actually build your email list with people who want to hear form you).
And it doesn’t matter how small your email list is. As soon as you start building your email list you should be sending regular emails several times each week.
So as soon as you publish that new blog post, send an email and let your subscribers know about it!
But don’t stop there!
If your content is solid, packed with value and you know that all of your subscribers should read it, be sure to add an email promoting that content to a relevant segment in any of your autoresponder campaigns.
That way, as you are building your email list, all of your newest subscribers will be made aware of your awesome content and you will continue to auto-magically drive new traffic (and shares) to your outstanding content!
Go do it now!
#5: Re-Send to Non-Opens
I would wager that less than 10% of online marketers consistently re-send their email broadcasts to non-opens.
And yet, here is a super simple technique that takes less than 5 minutes to execute that could help drive increased traffic with every email you send!
On average when you send an email you can expect between a 20-50% open rate.
Which means that 50-80% of your email subscribers are NOT opening your emails!
When looking to improve results in your business, ALWAYS start by looking at small tweaks and hacks you can make to your existing processes.
By re-sending an email to the people that didn’t open your first email, you can engage with an additional 10-20% of your list! That’s more traffic, more clicks and potentially more shares on every piece of content and email you send.
- Use the same email you originally sent out to your email list but change the headline to something completely different.
- Email it out a few days to one week later, but only send it to your non-opens.
- That’s it! Just repeat this for EVERY email you send!
If you do this one thing consistently imagine the increase over time of clicks, visitors and shares on your content as your email list continues to grow.
#6: Share Your Content with Your Audiences & Networks
Always start your promotions with your existing audience and networks. You are growing your audience aren’t you?
If you’ve attended or watched any of my training you should already be familiar with the 3 Step Formula that is the foundation for every successful online business.
The first step of that formula is: Build Your Audience.
In addition to building your email subscribers list you should also be actively growing your audience on the main social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and perhaps Google+.
Depending on your chosen social media strategies you could also focus on growing audience on Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat and others.
If you are just starting out I recommend you focus on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
For more detailed tutorials on how to grow your audience simply sign up for the OnlineProfitPlaybook Inner Circle Membership – Start Your Free 30 Day Trial Today.
- Facebook: Create a Facebook post on your Facebook business page promoting your new blog post. I recommend using a visually engaging image or even a short video. I recommend you click the BOOST POST button after publishing and boost the post to reach your audience (people who liked your page) and also their friends.
- Facebook Group: If you have created your own Facebook Group be sure to create a post in that group and let everyone know about it.
- Twitter: Create a Twitter post on your Twitter profile promoting your new blog post. I recommend also adding an image to make it more engaging.
- YouTube: If you have a video as part of your blog post or content, upload that video to your YouTube account. Or if you don’t, create a short video outline the content of the blog post and the benefits for your readers to read the post. Include a link to your blog post in the first 2 lines of the description.
- Other Social Media: If you are building audiences on other social media platforms be sure to share your new content on all of your social media platforms to reach as many people in your networks as possible.
#7: Make It Easy For Visitors to Share Your Content
This should go without saying and yet, this is still an area that so many content creators neglect. There are many great plugins and apps to make sharing easy. I’m not going to review all of them (I’ll leave that for another post) but I will offer my social share plugin you should use to promote your blog posts right away.
The SumoMe Share App is a popular, widely used and simple to set up plugin for your wordpress site that creates beautiful and easy to use social media share buttons. And their Share app is free!
With SumoMe Share App you can:
- Choose exactly where you want social media share icons to appear
- Integrate with 16 different social media platforms
- A “smart sorting” feature which automagically maximizes the networks that drive the most social traffic for you
- Detailed analytics show you the posts and social platforms that are getting the most engagement for you
SET IT UP:
- Go to the SumoMe website and create an account.
- If you have a wordpress site (which you should) simply download the SumoMe wordpress plugin and upload the zip file to your wordpress site under Add New Plugins. For step by step instructions refer to this page: https://sumome.com/wordpress
- Once the plugin is activated, in your wordpress site, find the SumoMe link in the left hand side navigation and navigate to the dashboard.
- Select Store.
- You should now see all of the SumoMe apps available to you. Some are free and some are only included in the Pro version. The Share App is free.
- Select the Share App and turn it on.
- Navigate to the “Layout” tab and simply choose the areas you want your share icons to display. I recommend these 3 places. If the bottom ones don’t look right with your particular website layout thats fine, turn that one off and just keep the top and floating side ones.
- Now choose the social media platforms you want to show on your share bar. I recommend no more than 6.
- *TIP: Be sure to enable Smart Mode and SumoMe will automatically order the most popular social media platforms (based on your share counts) at the top.
- Under the “Services” enter your Twitter handle (don’t include the @ symbol)
- You’re done!
#8: Set Up Click to Tweet Plugin for more social shares
Social media share links are a standard tool that pretty much all marketers use on their blog posts. And although you should continue to use them, the problem is most blog readers are so used to seeing them on every site they visit, they become blind to them and their effectiveness is diminished.
Which is just another reason to vary the ways in which we encourage our readers to share our content.
The Click to Tweet plugin is an excellent and simple method for your readers to share valuable snippets, quotes or specific information from your blog post. And it’s super easy to set up!
SET IT UP:
- From your WordPress dashboard select Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- In the search bar search for Better Click to Tweet.
- Click to Install and Activate.
- Once the plugin is activated click the Settings link.
- Enter your Twitter handle (username) in the space provided but don’t include the @ symbol.
- Check the box to Use Short URL
- Click to Save Changes.
- You’re all done!
Now when you create a post simply you will see the small Click to Tweet icon in your wordpress post editor.
Place your cursor where you want the Click to Tweet notification in your blog post then click the blue Click to Tweet icon and you will see this.
Enter the quote you want to tweeted and be sure to include your Twitter handle as well. All done!
Now go ahead and Tweet the quote below!
#9: Set Up Desktop / Mobile Push Notifications for Your Website
You’ve probably noticed the little Get Notified icons on many popular blogs lately. Push Notifications allow your website visitors to subscribe to receive notifications on their desktop or mobile phone with a simple click.
Opt-in rates can be as high as 20-25% of your website visitors which is significantly higher than email subscribe rates on most blogs (typically 5-10%).
Push notifications give you another way to reach your audience and update them about new content without needing them to open your emails.
Push notifications are delivered right on your browser (works in Chrome, Firefox, Safari) so you can communicate with your audience even when they are not on your website. And the notifications work on all devices so you can communicate with your audience on their mobile device as well.
I personally use and recommend PushCrew as it is easy to setup, free to use up to 500 subscribers and gives you all the analytics you need.
Set Up Push Notifications on Your Site
- Head over to pushcrew.com and sign up for a free account.
- If you are using WordPress for your blog head over to your wordpress dashboard and click to add Plugins. Search for PushCrew in the search bar. Install and activate.
- You will need to add your PushCrew Account ID number to connect the wordpress plugin with your Pushcrew account. Go login to your PushCrew dashboard and look for Account Settings under Settings in the left hand side navigation. For more detailed instructions: https://pushcrew.com/push-notifications-for-wordpress-websites/
- From inside your PushCrew Dashboard look under the Settings and Customize for Desktop and Customize for Mobile.
- You can upload your logo, customize the title, subtitle, button text, location and many other settings for both desktop and mobile (mobile is available only in paid plans)
- Enable and set up a Welcome Notification to greet your new subscribers with a custom message
- Once you start getting new subscribers go ahead and send your first push notification
- Go to your dashboard and click the green Send Push Notification button
- Customize your notification message
- Hit Send!
This is a super simple strategy to add to your website right now to ensure you can communicate with people who have visited your website in the past and enjoyed your content.
#10: Use PostPlanner to Re-Share Your Best Content on Facebook
Great content deserves to have a long life! So don’t stop promoting it!
You should have a strategy to continue to consistently promote your best content to your ever growing audience.
My friend Michelle Pescosolido (and awesome Facebook marketer) recorded a short tutorial video on how she uses PostPlanner to continue to share her best blog posts and content with her large audience on Facebook. You can read her full article on PostPlanner: Schedule Posts Strategy for More Website Traffic.
Remember that most of your audience won’t see your initial posts. You should continue to share your content over time. PostPlanner automates this process and it will only take you a few minutes of your time to set up.
If you’re building an audience on Facebook (and you SHOULD be) then this is a strategy you absolutely should be leveraging.
#11: Use TweetJukeBox to Share & Re-Share Your Content on Twitter
Twitter is still one of the most untapped and under utilized social media platforms by marketers.
It is by far one of the easiest, quickest and cheapest audiences you can build. In fact you can grow an audience of thousands of followers in a matter of just a few months for very low cost and in just a few minutes each day.
It’s why I recommend building a Twitter audience to all of my Inner Circle members.
We have a full tutorial in the premium case study episode #21 with Adam Chandler inside our Inner Circle Membership.
You can check it out for FREE here, just create your account.
Your Twitter audience is the ideal place to promote your blog posts and outstanding content!
And with TweetJukebox you can automate the entire process by scheduling automated tweets to go out on a repetitive and on-going basis, ensuring that more of your audience sees your content!
My friend Adam Chandler has been using this technique over the last year and he’s been able to grow his Twitter following to more than 75,000 followers, drives thousands of clicks to his website each month and generates over 25+ leads daily just from Twitter alone.
#12: Share in Relevant Facebook Groups
This isn’t the most leveraged activity to promote your content to increase your blog traffic but it is a strategy that you can add to your overall promotions that can work for you especially if you are starting out and looking for some no-cost strategies.
In Facebook’s search bar simply type in the keywords associated with your niche and hit enter to search.
In the top bar navigation (just below the search bar) you will see several options; choose Groups.
Simply join as many public groups released to your niche where you feel the right prospects will be.
Share your valuable and relevant blog posts, videos or content in the groups.
Be careful and don’t over post! Just post to 3-5 groups at a time. Space it out. Don’t SPAM! Provide value.
#13: Share in Relevant Google+ Communities
As with Facebook there are thousands of communities in every niche imaginable on Google+ as well and they are an ideal channel to promote your valuable content.
If you haven’t joined any communities on Google+ yet you’ll have to do that first.
Head over to your Google+ account and select Communities from the left hand side navigation.
Search for related communities in your niche by entering relevant keywords in the search bar. Join communities that you feel are relevant to your niche and would be ideal markets for your content.
Once you’ve joined the communities you can now promote your outstanding content to each of the communities.
As with Facebook be cautious and don’t share your content in more than 3-5 communities at a time. Don’t get you’re post flagged!
#14: Use Sniply to Increase Blog Traffic
You can piggy back off the social sharing of content more popular than yours with snip.ly.
I’ll share one example so you can see exactly how it works.
First head over to snip.ly and create your account.
You will want to customize your brand by adding a photo, your name and a home URL. I used my Facebook Page URL.
Next choose one of your incredible blog posts that you want to promote.
I’ll choose my podcast episode 44 with Ryan Cody McMorris where he shares his top hacks to get more leads with Facebook LIVE Broadcasts.
My first step will be to use BuzzSumo to quickly find the most popular (most shared) content on my particular topic.
I enter the keywords “Facebook Live Tips” and BuzzSumo shows me the top 10 articles that received the most shares on social media.
Copy the URL of the popular article you want to share with your audience and paste it into snip.ly
You can customize the appearance of each snip.
For now just start with the free version of snip.ly so just choose the button option.
**NOTE: Sniply now has advanced options to display on opt-in form, images and even place retargeting pixels on popular content you share that isn’t even yours!
Once you set up the link simply copy the unique Sniply URL and share it with your entire audience everywhere you can!
When people click on your Sniply link they will go to popular content from the authority site you chose, but they will see a Sniply bar at the bottom of the page pointing to YOUR amazing content.
This is the absolute best way to use popular curated content from authority websites to increase traffic to your blog!
**BONUS TIP: Use PostPlanner for Facebook and / or TweetJukebox for Twitter to schedule and reuse your Sniply links over time.
#15: Create Videos to Drive Traffic From YouTube
Videos are a core part of my overall marketing strategy. I will typically create a video first and then create a written blog post based on the video.
But you can do that both ways.
For instance I can take this How to Promote Your Blog Posts guide I’ve written and create a video going over all of the strategies.
Better yet, I can create many short videos, each video focusing on just one of the tactics explained in this guide.
You record an easy talking head video where you simply speak into your camera or iPhone and upload it to youtube or you can use a screen recording software like Camtasia or ScreenFlow or the free option with Screen Cast-O-Matic and record a how-to tutorial video.
Be sure to optimize your YouTube video to get as many views as possible.
In the video let them know that they can learn all of the tactics over on your website and share the link to your blog post in the description of the video.
Next, create a YouTube annotation to link back to the full article so the viewer can easily click the icon and head over to your website.
Be sure to add a YouTube Card as well to send the viewer direct to your lead magnet opt in as well to build your email list.
If you want to get a ton of inexpensive views on your video and get even more traffic back to your website I strongly recommend setting up a simple youtube video ads campaign. You can get views in competitive niches for as low as pennies per view!
#16: Use Pinterest to Drive High Quality Buyers Traffic
Ok I have to admit when my friend Chef Katrina told me that she was super excited about using Pinterest to drive traffic to her online marketing blog, I thought to myself “well isn’t that cute.”
If you are like me you probably think of Pinterest as a site women use to save pictures of recipes, clothes, jewelry and home renovation ideas.
I kind of thought she was a bit crazy for thinking she could promote her information products and internet marketing training with cute pictures on Pinterest.
But after she shared with me her process and her results in just a few months time of posting pictures on Pinterest I had to eat my words.
You can listen to our podcast interview here and check out her latest article on Pinterest Promoted Pins on her blog, follow Chef Katrina on Pinterest and if you want to learn her strategy explained step-by-step just sign up for my Inner Circle Membership where all of our Top OnlinePlaymakers reveal their most effective marketing playbooks.
Here’s the breakdown of the Pinterest Strategy:
1. Create Your Pinterest account for Business
2. Set up your profile, profile image and description
3. Create several relevant boards (minimum 5 boards)
4. Add relevant images to each board (these can be your images and others’)
5. Go out and follow relevant people and relevant boards
6. Create an Engagement Ad Campaign using one of your engaging pins
7. CTA should be directed to a relevant blog post
8. Create a Traffic Campaign using one of your engaging pins
9. CTA should be directed to a relevant blog post

#17: Re-Purpose Your Content
Get the most out of each piece of content you create by modifying it into a variety of mediums to share on even more websites and reach different audiences. You can even outsource much of this process and really leverage your time and effort.
Let’s take that incredibly valuable and relevant blog post that you just spent hours writing.
Obviously you’re going to share your great article or video on social media. But don’t stop with just one share! Repurpose your content by pulling out small snippets, quotes, statements and turn them into lots of social media posts you can schedule over a long period of time to increase your actual reach. Post on your major social profiles like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, InstaGram and Pinterest.
Create a Presentation
Create a slide presentation using Keynote (for Mac) or PowerPoint. You can keep it really simple. Obviously make it look clean and professional. This is your brand and reputation on the line. And it’s going to be seen by lots of people. That’s what you want right? Upload your powerpoint to www.slideshare.net
Create a Video
Now screen record the powerpoint presentation as you read the article into a microphone. I use a screen capture video recording software like Camtasia, ScreenFlow or Jing. Now you’ve got a video. Upload your video to YouTube.com. You can also upload it to other video sharing sites but honestly YouTube will get you 90% of your traffic so I wouldn’t make that a priority.
Create an Audio
Create a Podcast
A bit more involved, but well worth it would be turn these audios into a podcast. There are certain things you need to invest some time creating, like a proper intro and a Podcast cover image. But if you invest the time to create a podcast it can generate A LOT of traffic and high quality prospects for your business. If you want to learn more about podcasting learn from the best; start with John Lee Dumas and his How to Podcast: The Ultimate Guide to Podcasting . I recommend using a podcast hosting service like LibSyn and create accounts and upload your podcast to iTunes, Stitcher & BluBrry.
Create an InfoGraphic
You can hire a designer (check out Fiverr.com) and turn information from your post into an InfoGraphic. Post it on your blog as another post. Then post it to Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and other high traffic social media sites.
Post on Quora
Quora is a popular social answer site. You can post as a reply to a question or as a post to your Quora blog.
Create New Articles
Create more articles from your original. For instance, if you wrote a post on the 7 elements of an effective blog post, you could now create 7 new articles expanding on each one of the 7 elements. You can also do this the other way, and instead take several related articles and collect them into a single summary post.
Start a Discussion
Turn your valuable content into a discussion in popular groups on Facebook, LinkedIn or on a popular forum. Post the URL to your original content in the post as a reference.
Create a Lead Magnet
If its a highly valuable and comprehensive article or video that solves a major problem for your market you can consider turning it into a lead magnet.
Publish an eBook
Finally, you can compile several valuable pieces of content into an awesome ebook and publish it using services like PapyrusEditor which actually converts your blog posts into an eBook using your RSS feed. PressBooks makes it easy to create all of the different files you will need to publish your ebook to Amazon’s CreateSpace, .MOBI for Kindleand .EPUB for Apple’s iBooks.
#18: Use Live Broadcasts to Increase Reach
So one of the hottest strategies right now that nearly 75% of marketers (based on my surveys) are NOT leveraging yet is Live Broadcasts.
The 3 primary platforms are Facebook Live, Periscope and YouTube Live.
We’ll focus on just Facebook in this article since it is the largest, most effective (in my opinion) and easiest to use.
If you want to create and increase the reach of your posts (especially for Business Pages) Facebook Live streaming is hands down the best way to do this.
But it can also be a great way to promote your blog posts and videos.
Facebook loves their Live broadcasting feature and will work to share your live broadcasts with more of your audience.
Plus live broadcasts are typically more engaging as you can communicate with your audience, ask them questions and have them respond in the comments creating higher engagement rates. And as we know Facebook will show your highly engaged posts more than any others.
If you’ve created a high quality and valuable piece of content this gives you some great things to talk about on a Facebook Live broadcast.
Once installed simply connect your Facebook account and access your page.
Click the Publish option.
Click the red Live icon and then click Live Video.
Enter in a Description and hit Go Live!
Talk. Engage. Have Fun.
Be sure to Like My Page on Facebook so you are notified when I go live!
The live portion of your broadcast is just the beginning.
Once the broadcast is complete Facebook will post the recording of it on your wall.
Head over to the post of your live broadcast and click on the little arrow in the top right corner. Select edit.
Edit the description. You can change the title, focus on the benefits (what’s in it for them) and even include a call to action. This is where you can promote your awesome piece of content or blog post!
Engage with every person that leaves a comment.
Post a comment with your call to action inviting them to learn more by reading the full article or video on your blog.
For more tips and hacks check out the podcast episode with Ryan Cody McMorris where he shares his top hacks for getting more leads with Facebook Live.

#19: Create a Profitable Monetization Strategy
What does selling stuff on your website have to do with getting traffic?
Don’t you need website visitors in order to sell stuff?
Well that is what some people believe. In fact, it’s the reason why the internet is littered with so many broke bloggers. They’re all operating under the false belief that they need to have a blog with a lot of traffic first, before they can sell stuff on their blog.
That is completely backwards thinking and it’s exactly why they struggle to make a few hundred bucks from a blog they’ve been tirelessly working on for months and sometimes years.
Any good marketer knows that you always begin with the offer first and work backwards.
Define the offer, then build the marketing campaign and your content around the offer.
Before I start any marketing campaign I can calculate my potential ROI (return on investment) and I know exactly what KPI (key performance indicators) I need to achieve in order to hit my revenue goals.
If this is all new to you and you don’t have a clue what an effective monetization strategy looks like, I have a detailed workshop for you inside my Inner Circle Membership you can sign up for right now.
One of the fundamental pillars of the online marketing strategy I teach is to plan and create your monetization strategy BEFORE you go out and try to get traffic.
Personally I would rather make money sooner than later in my business and I want the same for my students and clients which is why we actually plan on how we’re going to do that 🙂
You build your revenue generating vehicle first and then you simply add the gasoline (traffic!).
By doing this you completely eliminate the self-imposed challenge of getting traffic to your website.
What does this look like?
There are many ways to create a revenue producing sales process or funnel for your online business.
The basics of a money making online business:
- A lead magnet and lead capture page to build your email list
- A front-end (low-cost) offer
- Some type of continuity offer
- Back end (higher profit) offers
You don’t even need to create your own products or offers to implement this. You can start, as many marketers do, by simply offering other people’s products as an affiliate.
The key is that you actually have a plan to make money with the traffic you do get.
Now how does having a monetization strategy help you to promote your blog to increase traffic, generate leads and grow your online business?
It allows you to invest money into buying traffic. And when you are able to buy traffic you take full control over the growth of your business.
Go ahead… I know you wanna Tweet That!
#20: Leverage the Power & Scale of Paid Ads
Imagine this perfect scenario: You open up a website, click a few buttons, write some text, ad an image and press go.
Within a few minutes you start seeing the clicks and new visitors hitting your website. You start to see likes, shares and comments piling up.
In just a few hours your outstanding piece of content has received several hundred views, dozens of likes, shares and exuberant comments from people who really loved your content.
Imagine now having the control to scale that traffic and get hundreds or even thousands of visitors to engage with your incredible content and share it with the world.
Welcome to the wonderful world of paid media.
I am STILL amazed at the amount of online marketers who don’t leverage the power sitting at their fingertips to grow their impact and reach in limitless ways.
With Facebook ads, Google adwords, Youtube ads, promoted tweets, Instagram ads, Pinterest ads and more, each of us has the potential to reach millions of people around the world with our message and content.
Getting traffic to your website, as much traffic as you could possibly handle, is as easy as a few clicks of the mouse.
You just have to pay for it.
Now I know what you may be thinking.
“But I’m not making enough (or any) money yet!”
“I can’t afford to pay for traffic!”
Sure. You can continue to tell yourself that story. So you can stay comfortable and avoid the success you fear so much.
You could actually sit down and plan your business like a business.
Figure out HOW you will make the money.
Create your monetization plan.
And then execute on that plan like a real entrepreneur does.
- Create a profitable monetization plan. If you need help Join my Inner Circle.
- Research and decide what your market really wants and/or needs
- Create or decide on a lead magnet to build your email list (yours or a PLR)

- Create or decide on a continuity offer or program you can sell to your email subscribers (yours or an affiliate product)
- Create or decide on a higher profit offer or product you can sell (yours or an affiliate product)
- Create the sales funnel that leads your visitor from optin, to your lead offer, to your continuity and then to your backend offer
- Add a retargeting pixel to your website (at the very least ad the Facebook pixel)

Now obviously this is a simplified training on this topic and there are entire courses dedicated to creating profitable sales funnels.
BUT… having a profitable sales process in place is a fundamental pillar of a successful online business.
So before you waste months (and potentially years) chasing after traffic by creating hundreds of blog posts and videos and scrambling around the internet hoping people will come and read it and share it with others, why not put all the control in your own hands.
Create your revenue producing vehicle first.
Then you’ll be able to grow and scale your business as fast and as big as you want it.

#21: Use Facebook Custom Audiences and ReMarketing
Now that we’ve talked about the importance of having a Monetization Strategy for your online business and how you can scale your business fast with paid ads, I want to share with you one of the first and most effective things you will want to take advantage of.
Facebook Custom Audience allow you to create specific audiences in Facebook that you can then target your ads to.
Create Audience #1: Website Visitors
Create a custom audience in Facebook of all the people who visit your website. Once you do this you will then be able to post ads to all of these people and let them know about your latest blog post or video you created.
This is a powerful way to engage with people who already know who you are or at least have already had one or more interactions with your company and your brand.
It’s a very affordable way to drive targeted visitors back to your website, increase engagement, get more views, more shares and ultimately more leads and sales as well.
SET IT UP:
The first thing you have to do is install the Facebook Pixel on your website. It is very easy to do and you can follow the step-by-step instructions here. https://www.facebook.com/business/help/952192354843755
Once you have installed the pixel on your site, head into your Business Manager or Ads Manager and select Audiences. Click Create Audience.
Select Website Traffic from the options given.
In the settings, select Anyone Who Visits Your Website. For duration select 180 days and be sure to include past website traffic as well.
Enter a name for your audience (this is just for you). Click Create Audience.
You are done!
As people visit your website, Facebook will be able to recognize them, track them, and add them into your new Custom Audience of all your website visitors.
Next time you publish and incredible piece of content that’s worth sharing all you need to do is create a simple ad and target your new custom audience.
Engaging with people who have already visited your website and expressed an interest will help you to bring back visitors, create more brand visibility, develop your relationship with them and ultimately drive more traffic, shares, views and leads for your content and your business.
You can get very specific with this strategy on Facebook.
For instance you can create custom audiences of people who visited a specific blog post, page or several specific pages or posts.
You can even create audiences for people who visited your website and didn’t opt in to your email list. Or didn’t buy. Whatever you like.
For instance I can create an audience of all the people who visited this blog post on how to promote your blog and then retarget all of the people that visited but didn’t download the cheat sheet and check list with a specific lead generation ad to invite them to download the bonuses.
This is an excellent strategy for lead generation.
Create Audience #2: Email Subscribers
The average email open rate for the majority of marketers is somewhere between 18-25% throughout various industries. (source: https://mailchimp.com/resources/research/email-marketing-benchmarks/)
That means that roughly 75-80% of your email subscribers NEVER open your emails!
This is why your follow up strategy MUST be diverse and include a variety of methods to engage with your audiences and email subscribers through different platforms.
This is where Facebook Custom Audiences excel and it is why installing the Facebook Pixel on your site and setting up these Custom Audience is one of the first few steps I have all of my students and clients complete.
SET IT UP:
G0 to your email software and export a .csv file for all of the email subscribers you want to put into one audience. Make sure they are all related to the topic of the ads you will be showing them. If you don’t know how export your email leads head to the help section of your email software website, or simply type into Google “how to export email subscribers in Aweber”. (Replace Aweber with your current email software service.
Once you have the .csv file, head on back to you Audience page inside your Business Manager / Ads Manager in Facebook.
Click “Create Audience” and this time choose Customer File from the options.
Upload your file to Facebook.
Facebook will try to match all of the emails in your file with emails they have associated with Facebook accounts. You can expect about 50% or more to be matched.
Name your new custom audience.
That’s it. You now have a powerful method to reach and engage with your email subscribers outside of their busy inboxes on a website that most people visit every single day!
